What we do:

  • First, we will ask you a series of questions to help determine if it is definitely bats. If you have pictures of droppings, we want to see them! We can tell if they are bat droppings right away.
  • Once we confirm that you do have a bat problem, we will go to your house and get to work. After the work is completed we give you peace of mind with our bat removal guarantee for up to 3 years.

How we do it:

  • We systematically go all the way around and all the way over a house.
  • We seal everything, pinky sized and bigger.
  • And we search for the active entry points. We look for dark areas around the entry points, we will even smell the area because bats use a pheromone scent to come back to the same place.
  • At the active entry points we will install a one-way check valve that we make ourselves.
  • Once installed, the one-way check valve allows the bats to exit the house.  It is a one way door – they cannot re-enter it.  If you lock them out of their regular entrance and do not seal up the rest of the house, they will just go around the corner and find another entrance.  Finding their active entry points is crucial to allowing them to successfully and humanely exit your home.

How long it takes:

We usually get the work done in a day, but it can take up to a week for the bats to be removed from your house, depending on the weather. This is because bats leave their colonies a group at a time each night to feed. When they return, they cannot re-enter because of the one-way check valve we installed. So it can take a few nights for the bats to leave your house.

Ivan and Heather were great. Knowledgable, experienced, professional and responsive. Ivan spent close to an hour on the phone with me answering my initial questions, and then a couple days later both Ivan and Heather came out to my home and gave me an assessment and quote. Two days later they had completed the job. Within a week of calling and that initial conversation with Ivan, I no longer had bats in my attic. It’s been a couple weeks since the work has been completed and there are no more signs of bats in or around my home. I highly recommend Ivan and Heather.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does it cost?

Short answer – it depends.

Long answer – Every house is different as to how much bat activity there is, the safety equipment involved in accessing the areas, the landscaping around the house – all of these things are determining factors in the cost to bat proof a house. Yes, it can be expensive. But to do it right we have to address everything on the exterior of the house. We can’t spot treat a house because bats are very persistent and if we block them out of their regular entry point, they will just find another place. Contact us for a quote.

I have a bat that hangs out on my porch and leaves guano. Everyday I sweep it up and everyday there’s a new pile. What can you do about that?

Between 30%-50% of the time, there’s usually more of something going on and you’re just not aware of it yet. Bats leave at night, they fill up on food, then they come back to their favorite roosting spot, which happens to be your back porch. During the night they feel safe there. They’ll come, rest and poop there until the sun comes up and then they go back to the house that they live in and stay there for 2 or 3 days and then go out again. It could be the same bat that uses this spot, or it could be a different bats each night because of that pheromone scent they leave behind. So where does that bat live? It could be in the same house OR a house near you. It could be that they are checking your house out to see if it’s an easy place to come and go from. Regardless, if there is a bat there on a regular basis, chances are your house is being used or will be used quite soon.

We can assess your house and give you 3 choices:

  1. You can get your house pre bat proofed and that way you know you won’t have a problem
  2. You can have us come and do regular inspections to make sure that their activity doesn’t increase.
  3. You can just wait until bats start to actively use your house and you can call us back and we will come and bat proof your house.
If I put a bat house up, will that take care of my problem?

We never discourage using a bat house. If you love birds and bats and things like that we will never discourage that. However, you need to manage your expectations. It may or may not ever get used. Bats will never winter in a bat house, it’s always a temporary place. Think of a bat house as a campsite for bats. They may spend a short amount of time there, but they will always go back to the house where there is proper protection and conditions for them to live long term.

Can I get rabies from a bat flying around inside?

Epidemiologists and family doctors highly recommend that whoever was in the same room where the bat was, to go ahead and get a rabies shot OR collect the bat (don’t kill it), have it killed and tested and that may mean a rabies shot is not needed. We are not Epidemiologists or Doctors so please consult your doctor if this happens. For more information visit the CDC website.

Do you clean up guano after you bat proof a house?

It depends…

The CDC recommends that if an accumulation of guano that is in an area that is never going to be disturbed, the best thing to do is to leave it alone. When disturbed, guano turns to powder very easily and the particles can get in the air which you can potentially breath in and there is a concern about lung infections such as Histoplasmosis occuring. If guano is peppered around insulation, you are never going to be walking through that and disturbing it, so the best thing to do is just leave it alone. If it’s in an area where you may be storing things, then yes it can be cleaned up. The safest way is to mist it down with water first, then use a hepa filter vacuum to clean it up. We can do small jobs like this, but that is not our main focus during the busy season. The most important thing to do during that time is to bat proof people’s houses. We will wait until fall time and address any cleaning then.
